Industrial Parks
The Southside Planning District is home to a number of industries, most of whom are located in one of the region's industrial parks. Industrial parks contain concentrated areas of land to accommodate manufacturing and industrial services. A properly developed industrial park allows a mixture of various industries to produce goods in a flexible environment, and is very important to the manufacturing community in terms of efficient production.

The Southside Planning District contains 15 industrial parks.

ENTERPRISE ZONES
All three of the counties represented by the Southside Planning District are a part of Virginia's Enterprise Zone Program. Industries that locate in a designated Enterprise Zone are awarded significant incentives by the state such as tax credits and job grants. These incentives are not available outside an Enterprise Zone. There are five Enterprise Zones in the district:

Brunswick County Enterprise Zone - 2,833 Acres
Halifax County / South Boston Enterprise Zone - 1,725 Acres
Mecklenburg County Regional Enterprise Zone - 3,315 Acres
Mecklenburg - Clarksville Regional Enterprise Zone - 2,122 Acres
South Hill Enterprise Zone - 677 Acres
