Southside PDC - Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan Update 2011
About the Project
The Southside Planning District Commission has been awarded funding support to conduct a Comprehensive Review and Update of the existing Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan for the Southside Planning District that was approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 2006 upon adoption by the localities of Brunswick, Halifax, & Mecklenburg Counties and the Towns of Boydton and South Hill.
The data in the Southside Planning District Natural HMP is current only to 2004. Therefore the ultimate goal is to bring all the data up to date. This information will include historical occurrences of hazards, location, impact, and dollar losses, which will lead to updating the overall vulnerability for each locality. The planning process will also involve reviewing and prioritizing mitigation goals and strategies and developing new mitigation projects to reduce risk to future damage. A capability assessment will also be updated.
